ORGANIZATIONS

American Authors Association

American Author's Association:  A not-for-profit organization of authors, poets, artists, filmmakers, and musicians, dedicated to the creative arts.  Members vary widely in age, experience, and success, from internationally-renowned artists and bestselling authors, to novices taking their first steps into the world of artistic creation.

Military Writers' Society of America

Military Writers' Society of America:  An association of more than eight-hundred authors, poets, and artists, drawn together by the common bond of military service.  Most members are active duty military, retirees, or military veterans.  A few are lifelong civilians who have chosen to honor our military through their writings or their art.  The only core principle is a love of the men and women who defend this nation, and a deeply personal understanding of their sacrifice and dedication.

(If you contact any of these professionals, be sure to tell them you were referred by Navigator Books!)

Jack Woodville London:  International keynote speaker and workshop presenter, Jack Woodville London, brings a highly-effective nuts-and-bolts perspective to the art of writing.  Kirkus Reviews recently referred to his book, A NOVEL APPROACH, as “A common-sense approach to turning inspiration into a novel.”  He draws heavily on his own experience writing award-winning military historical fiction, to offer a series of recommendations for writers looking for help in researching a topic, suggestions for maintaining motivation and advice on avoiding grammatical errors.  His hands-on workshops are designed to turn readers into clear, effective writers.

Editing TLC:  Editing TLC (Technical Literary Critique) is the website of professional Copy Editor Joyce Gilmour.  Joyce summarizes the copy editor's job with what she refers to as the “Five C’s.”  An effective editor  can make a manuscript: Clear, Correct, Concise, Comprehensible, and Consistent.  She corrects spelling, punctuation, grammar, terminology/jargon, and semantics.  She maintains a dialogue with each writer during the editing process, and asks questions designed to help clarify the content and text for the intended target audience.  Her goal is to ensure that the author's voice always shines through.
